FAQ
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions by prospective guests. If you have a question that is not answered here, please click 'Contact' on the top menu to submit an enquiry. Enquiries are usually responded to the same day.
Q. Do you allow pets at the house?
A. Well-behaved pets are welcome at the house, and there is an enclosed back garden, but please note that small dogs may manage to escape depending on their determination to do so. Please be aware that there are un-neutered dogs in the village. If your pets are likely to climb on furniture, please bring a couple of old throws or blankets with you to protect the furniture, and please keep pets to the tiled areas of the house if they are wet and/or dirty.
Q. Is there a dishwasher in the house?
A. There isn't a dishwasher in the house, but there are 2 very large sinks in the largest kitchen that make washing-up very easy.
Q. Is there a microwave in the house?
A. Yes, there is a microwave in the smaller kitchen. You're welcome to move this to the larger kitchen during your stay if you find this more convenient.
Q. Is there a separate freezer in the house, or just a fridge with an ice-box?
A. There is an under-counter fridge and a separate under-counter freezer in the larger kitchen, and a fridge freezer with sizeable freezer compartment in the smaller kitchen.
Q. Can I readily buy food and other supplies on the island, or should I bring most things with me?
A. You won't find a wide range of fruit and veg on the island, but there are 2 well-stocked Co-op supermarkets on the island plus a variety of smaller shops that offer everything you will need. If you have the time on your way to the ferry, we recommend stopping at the Tesco petrol station in Lochgilphead on the A82 (about an hour from the ferry terminal) to stock up on fruit and veg.
Q. Your changeover day is a Sunday. Are there shops open on the island on a Sunday?
A. Yes there are several shops open on the island on a Sunday. We suggest that the Bridgend shop and the Bruichladdich shops are probably the most convenient. Both are fairly well-stocked, but note that the Bruichladdich shop is a bit more expensive with a lot of organic and fairtrade goods.
Q. What are the bathroom facilities in the house?
A. There are 2 upstairs bathrooms, each with bath with overhead shower, WC and wash-hand basin. There are also 2 downstairs WCs with wash-hand basin.
